Harry Potter Dress-Up Ideas

Harry Potter Costume
Harry Potter Costume Kit
When J. K. Rowling released her first Harry Potter novel back in June 1997 (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone), I doubt that she would ever have predicted that hundreds of millions of books in 67 languages would be sold in the series. Put simply, kids can't get enough of the Hogwarts wizard!

The officially licensed costume above looks really authentic, and includes round glasses, black hooded robe with a badge on the chest, and, of course, the wand. It's ideal for carnivals, parties, or just fun dress-up for any child who wants to be the Hogwarts student.

Harry Potter Tie

You may also want to add a tie enhance your look...

Harry Potter Tie
The tie above is the cheapest available at £2.39 including delivery. Although the reviews are above average, there are concerns about the quality of the stitching. If you're only going to be needing this tie for a day then it may be fine, though.

Official Harry Potter Silk Tie

At the other end of the scale is this official, high quality silk tie, which is available in three styles; Gryffindor, Slytherin or Ravenclaw House. At £19.95 it isn't cheap and certainly isn't a toy. It has an average rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars and is a good choice if you want a tie that can be worn again and again.

Gryffindor Tie
The best option of all is probably this polyestor tie. It costs £4.50 (as I write) and should last longer than the cheaper fancy dress tie above.

Harry Potter Scarf

A scarf will give a really complete look, and is perfect for the winter months.

There are actually plenty of scarfs to choose from, and I've linked to the whole range at Amazon UK.

Official Harry Potter Gryffindor Scarf
This officially-licensed scarf is of a high quality, and ideal for a child to wear throughout the winter months. With an average rating of 4.8 stars from 67 customer reviews, it's very highly rated. A matching beanie hat is also available...

Harry Potter Fancy Dress Accessories

Different kits are also available, should you wish to buy the different accessories separately...

This kit with specs, wand and tie is the best-rated by customers, and was on offer at £5.99. However, this price may have changed by the time you're reading this, of course.

There are literally dozens of items and kits available, though. Try this search for Harry Potter Fancy Dress, which displays all available accessories.

If you're after just a robe/cloak then you'll find a wonderful range with prices for all budgets in this search Harry Potter Robe

Harry Potter Glasses

The choice of round specs can be a bit overwhelming, but it really depends on your budget, and whether you want a pair that will last for a while or just for a one-off event.

This pair is the best-rated by customers and costs £4.99. Comments suggest, though, that the round lens may be a little on the large size, so may not be suitable for younger children.

Harry Potter Glasses
At under £3 including free delivery, this pair is ideal for fancy dress. They have clear, plastic lenses and at 13.5 cm wide, should be ideal for younger kids.

At £5.14, this officially licensed pair of round specs may be the most ideal out of all the glasses available, and has good customer reviews, too.

Harry Potter Wand

The choice of wands is pretty huge, and really is going to be a matter of personal choice.

Harry Potter Replica Wand
This first wand comes in a replica ollivanders box, and would make for an ideal gift, although is certainly not ideal for use as a fancy dress item. Customer reviews are very favourable, though.

Wizard's Wand with flashing lights and sound
This wand toy is highly rated and has flickering lights and makes a wooshing noise. It actually includes batteries, and would make a lovely present for any wannabe wizard!

Harry Potter Wand
For dress-up, this officially-licensed wand is probably the most ideal. It costs £2.72 plus delivery, and although it would probably make for a slightly disappointing present, for fancy dress it's perfect.
